PGSC Ready to Launch Mobile Science Exhibition!

Kapurthala, July 22, 2015: Science City is now ready to reach the unreached section of the society through its Mobile Science Exhibition. The project is being launched jointly with I.K Gujral Punjab Technical University and NCSTC, Department of Science & Technology  Government of India, to inculcate scientific temper in the society especially amongst rural masses. The objective of this programe is to take Science to the doorsteps of rural masses and impress upon them the significance of Science and Technology for betterment of quality of their lives and to expose them to some of the issues and challenges related to sustainable development. This information was given by Dr. Neelima Jerath, Director General, Science City. Further, she said, that, Science communication is one of the priority areas to develop scientific temper and motivate students to take up careers in science and technology. The interactive exhibits and information panels will give the students/visitors an opportunity to learn through the process of interaction and discovery. The emphasis of the programme will be to develop an informed and knowledgeable society and to pull out the masses from the clutches of the superstitions in which they are presently caught due to misinformation and belief. The subject areas for exhibits and information panels to be covered in the Mobile Science Exhibition include Renewable Energy Sources, Health and Hygiene, Water Management, Waste Management, Climate Change and Modern Astronomy intended. The information on panels has been provided both in Punjabi and English, Dr Jerath added .

She said the Mobile Science Exhibition will be taken to all the 22 districts of Punjab. To begin with, five rural schools in each district will be selected and each school will cater to a cluster of schools in its vicinity of 5 kms. The Exhibition Bus will remain on tour for about 7 to 8 months in a year, covering more than 100 sites.
