No Procedural Delay On Part Of State Government To Disburse Scholarship Under Pre And Post Matric Schemes For SC Students

Chandigarh, September 26, 2015: There was not any procedural delay on part of the Punjab government to disburse scholarship under pre and post matric schemes for the Schedule Caste (SC) students in the state.
         Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Welfare Department said that the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India (GoI) had released a sum of Rs 280.81 crore under the Post Matric scheme on November 1, 2013. Out of this Rs 9.05 lakh were meant for year 2007-08, Rs 8.37 crore for year 2009-10, Rs 60.95 crore for year 2010-11, Rs 31.39 crore for year 2011-12, Rs 148.25 crore for year 2012-13 and Rs 31.75 crore for the SC students in year 2013-14. The spokesperson said that the state government had released the scholarship immediately after getting funds from the Union government.
         The spokesperson further said that under the scheme a websitewww.punjabscholarships.gov.in was started in 2013-14 and the students were asked to apply for scholarship online on it. Under this scheme scholarship was disbursed after getting the lists from DPI (Colleges), DPI (Secondary Education), Director Technical Education Punjab, Director Research and Medical Education, Director SCERT Punjab and Director Animal Husbandry. He further said that as per the orders of Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal these department were asked to re-verify the lists of the eligible students of 2014-15 so that the benefit of this scheme could be given to the genuine students.   
       The spokesperson further said that the pre-matric scholarship scheme was started by the GoI in year 2012-13 for the SC students studying in class 9th and 10th.  In the year 2013-14 the GoI had issued Rs 60.21 crore under scheme out of which Rs 21.54 crore was disbursed immediately and the remaining was transferred to the banks accounts of eligible beneficiaries after getting the details from education department. He made it clear the state government was issuing the sum under this scheme as soon as it was received from the GoI.
         Meanwhile, Welfare Minister Punjab Mr. Gulzar Singh Ranike had also issued strict warning to the officers/ officials of the department that any sort of delay in disbursing of scholarship to the students would not be tolerated at any cost and strict action would be taken against the officials found guilty in it.
