Chandigarh, February 7, 2014: Anil Joshi, Local Government Minister, Punjab has issued instructions to the department that his prime motive was to provide a corruption free, efficient and transparent administration and service to the people, and to attain this objective no official will be allowed to be posted on a particular seat for more than 3 years.
While reviewing the working of his department, he has further issued instructions that all works above Rs. 2 lac will be given a wide publicity and for these e-tendering will be there so that most competitive rates for the execution of the development works. He has cautioned the officials not to split up the works to favour any particular contractor and avoid the process of tendering.
Testing of all works has been made mandatory and a Quality Control Compendium has been issued to all ULBs in the state to ensure works as per laid out specifications. A SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) has been introduced in the department for better working.
Joshi has appealed to all the officials/officers of the department to work for the welfare of the general public and win their confidence/trust. Maximum number of officials have been given promotions as per the DPC of the department in the recent 3-4 months of his tenure and that a huge number of new posts have been got created in the local bodies and water supply and sewerage board. In view of the increased urbanisation 50 new posts of Building Inspectors have been sanctioned. 53 new posts of Sanitary Supervisor/Inspectors have been sanctioned for Jalandhar alone for providing the residents better civic facilities. Some posts of Leading Firemen and Pump Operators have also been created in the ULBs as per their requirements.
