No nomination filed for Dhuri by-election on second day of making nominations

Chandigarh, March 18, 2015:  No nomination paper was filed by any candidate on the second day of the making nominations for the by-election of Dhuri assembly constituency.
Stating this here today a spokesperson of the office of Chief Electoral Officer Punjab said that the last date of making nominations is March 24 while the date of withdrawal of candidature is on March 27.
He also said that on the directions of the Election Commission of India Booth Awareness Groups consists of 8 to 10 people  would be formed. The political parties have also been asked to appoint one representative each of their respective political parties. The other members of the group would be non-political, non official which would act as the ears and eyes of the Election Commission.  They would be directly in touch with the election commission and would report the cases of code violation, he added. A detailed action plan would be chalked out by the CEO and sent to the Commission for necessary action, he added.
Referring to the model code of conduct enforced during Dhuri by-election, he said that the code is confined only to Dhuri constituency as far as development plans and other major announcements were concerned. However as far as transfers and postings of the officers posted in the home district and use of official machinery  would be applicable in whole of district Sangrur, he added.
