“Router” non-functional for last five days, therefore, no booking of registries, speed post letters and parcels being done
Ludhiana, July 3, 2018: On one hand Government of India (GoI) is promoting Digital India for ensuring efficiency in the functioning of the government departments and the government employees as well but on the other hand people visiting Ludhiana Central Post Office for getting posted their letters registered/speed post and send parcels are returning completing the task. And this is because of the reason that machine at the counter is not working. Thus, it is causing harassment to people visiting at the counter concerned.
During a visit at the concerned counter today, it was observed that there was a completed deserted look and people were returning without posting their letters registered/ speed post and sending parcels. This was because of the reason that no work was going on at the counter. On being asked, a female employee present at the counter told that “router” was non-functional for the last five days, therefore, no booking of registries, speed post letters and parcels was being done. She further told that routine working was likely to restart after next two days.
When contacted, Chaman Lal, Post Master Grate III, posted at Ludhiana Central Post Office told that the work was on to get the things right. He hoped that work was likely to be reinstated from tomorrow onwards. He admitted that the work was getting interrupted for the last five days.
It may be mentioned here that Ludhiana Central Post Office, near Mata Rani Chowk, was previously known and called as General Post Office (GPO). However, GPO was set up near Mini Secretariat on Ferozepur Road in the past and the building near Mata Rani Chowk was named as` Ludhiana Central Post Office’. As the Ludhiana Central Post Office is located in old city there always remain huge rush of people. People visit Ludhiana Central Post Office for one or another purpose. A long queue of people is seen there almost on daily basis, as these people turn up there for booking of their parcels. The heavy rush is seen increasing because of increasing in ecommerce.
When contacted, Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal general secretary Mohinder Aggarwal said it was strange that counter for booking of registered letters, parcels and speed post was non-functional for the last 5 days and it was still likely to restart functioning in the next two days. “The traders, businessmen, common people and all others are feeling harassed under the present circumstances as they have to cover a long distance to get their works done”, he said.
Aggarwal said on one hand the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was making all out efforts for Digital India and improve efficiency in the government functionaries and on the other hand there are people who are indulging into sabotage of this drive. “If this kind of apathetic attitude is being shown to resolve to problem in a centrally located post office (Ludhiana Central Post Office) then what could be the situation in other parts especially in the rural areas could be well imagined.
Aggarwal urged upon the higher authorities to seriously take up the matter and do the needful at the earliest so that no one visiting Ludhiana Central Post Office for getting his work done should face any kind of difficulty.
