New public toilets to come up at 21 locations in Ludhiana under smart city mission

Ludhiana, September 23, 2016: In order to achieve the objective of 100 percent access to the toilets to the entire floating population of city more public toilets will be constructed at 21 locations in the city under smart city mission. A detailed project report has been prepared by AECOM India Private Limited and Pricewaterhousecoopers private limited which is under consideration now.

At present there are 46 operational public toilets at various locations in city but these are inadequate to serve the floating population of city. As per norms for every 200 users 1 seat is required and at present there are only 92 seats for males and 92 seats for females all across the city.

The consultant company has proposed new public toilets at 21 locations including Bharat Nagar Nagar Chowk, in front of Mini Secretariat, Police Commissioner' office, DC Office, Feroze Gandhi Market, in front of Aarti Cinema, Agar Nagar bus stand, Gill Chowk, Adjoining Gill Canal, Dholewal Chowk, Samrala Chowk right side near overbridge, Samrala Chowk left side near overbridge, near Jamalpur Chowk, opposite Veer Palace Chandigarh Road, near Durga Mata Mandir, Kitchlu Nagar Market, Ghumar Mandi Market, opposite DMC Hospital, near Jalandhar bypass underbridge, Pratap Chowk and bus stand.

In total there will be 42 seats for males, 32 seats for females, 42 urinals for males and 10 seats for physically challenged persons. Total cost of these public toilets has been estimated to Rs 4.20 crores. The proposed public toilets will mostly have pre-fabricated factory manufactured modular components including men modular row toilet stall, women modular row toilet stall, physically challenged modular toilet stall, solar powered street lights, solar powered LED lights, wash basin with shop dispenser, SS railings for physically challenged persons, dustbins, 2000 litre capacity overhead tank and direction board.

Two types of toilets are proposed based on the availability of space at site and requirement of toilet seats at the selected locations. In first type it will have one regular toilet for handicapped person, one toilet for women, two toilets and two urinals for men. In second type it will have two toilets for women, two toilets and two urinals for men.

The CEO of Ludhiana Smart City Limited and MC Commissioner, Ghanshyam Thori said that the consultant company has prepared the DPR for construction of public toilets at various locations and after technical verification of project report they will be floating the tenders for the project. He shared that convergence will be made from Swachh Bharat Mission to fund public toilets.
