Chandigarh, March 29, 2019: The Institute of Forensic Science and Criminology, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a one day National workshop on Computer and Voice Forensics, here today.
Shri Praveen Kumar Sinha (IPS), IG (Crime), Punjab Police in his keynote address enlightened the audience with the current trends in Cyber Crime and the modus operandi of such criminals involved in these crimes. He highlighted about the crime through Voice over Internet protocol (VOIP), Guerilla mail, anonymizer, cyber terrorism, ransom ware attack, DDOS, Tor (The onion routing), I2P, silk road, IOT, blockchain technology etc. He said in current scenario everyone is using free apps in their mobiles and no one is aware that in this free online world we are not customer but we are the product for the worldwide market. He shared his experience regarding problems the police agency normally face while encountering such crime in the society.He enlightened the gathering and cautioned everyone regarding the type of cybercrimes occurring in our country at a daily basis and also provided with the cautionary steps to be taken while using social network.
Prof. Devinder Singh, Secretary to Vice Chancellor, shared regarding the role of police, expert and judiciary for the conviction of the criminals. He stressed that the evidence produced in the court of law are highly conclusive.
Dr. Shweta Sharma, the Chairperson and Convener of this workshop said that in view of increase in the rate of digital crimes, these kind of workshops are need of the hour where students can ascertain about the forthcoming technology.
Professor S.K Mehta gave presentation regarding various instrumental facilities provided by SAIF/PU.
Professor Sanjay Chhibber shared the information regarding DST Purse Grant.
Dr. Vishal Sharma, organizing Secretary of the workshop said that IFSC will make such program a regular activity in future in the Department as nature of cyber criminals are utilizing the latest technology to commit such crimes.
More than 100 delegates participated in the workshop including Scientist from forensic labs, faculty and students from various Universities.
The invited lectures were on Forgery detection of Digital Video Authentication, Forensic Speech and its application in Audio Authentication, Techniques for Forensic Speaker Identification and Case Studies, Python Programming for Digital Forensic on Social Media and Web Fingerprinting and Linux & Open source for Forensic Science researchers.
Students from various Universities gave very high feedback and found the workshop lectures very beneficial for them.
