National Seminar on ‘Law and Socio-Economic Transformation’
Chandigarh, February 16, 2019: The Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized One Day National Seminar on ‘Law and Socio-Economic Transformation’ 16th February, 2019. The sub-themes comprised of Legislation and Socio-Economic Change, Judicial Activism and Socio-Economic Change, Law and Social Change, Legal Framework and present Global Challenges vis-à-vis Socio-Economic Transformation, Socio-Economic Dimension of Sustainable Development, Corporate Social Responsibility. At 10:30am on 16th February, the seminar was inaugurated by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Hemant Gupta, Judge, Supreme Court of India followed by a formal welcome by Prof. (Dr.) Meenu Paul, Chairperson, Department of Laws. The Keynote Address on the theme of Seminar was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Virendra Kumar, Professor Emeritus, Department of Laws, Panjab University. The keynote address comprised of struggle by the makers of the Constitution in framing the Constitution of India. It further laid stress on the fact that socio-economic development is to be interpretated in the light of the Constitution of India. Further Hon’ble Mr. Justice Hemant Gupta gave the account of various judgements that brought various socio-economic changes in the nation. Former Chairperson Professor Kulwant Gill donated cheque of rupees 50 lakhs 14 Thousand for extension of Block-II of the Department of Laws; received by Mrs. AnuChatrath, Dean, Faculty of Law. The Valedictory Session was presided by Chief Guest for the ceremony, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rajiv Sharma, Judge, High Court of Punjab and Haryana. The valedictory address was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Balram K. Gupta, Director (Academics), Chandigarh Judicial Academy. The seminar witnessed more than 100 participants from across the nation. The Coordinator of the Seminar was Prof. (Dr.) Devinder Singh and Co-coordinator was Prof. (Dr.) Vandana A. Kumar. The formal vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Devinder Singh.
