National seminar on doubling Income through sustainable & holistic Agriculture at Nauni varsity

The Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni will host the National Seminar on Doubling Income through Sustainable and Holistic Agriculture (DISHA) on 5-7 June.

The seminar is being jointly organized by the Society for Advancement of Human and Nature(SADHNA), Solan and UHF Nauni while the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Central Potato Research Institute(CPRI), Shimla are the technical collaborators of the event. Over 200 scientists and experts from across the country will be participating in the three-day event. Dr SK Chakrabarti, Director CPRI Shimla will be Chief Guest for the inaugural session of the seminar. The annual SADHNA research awards will also be presented during the event.

Chairman of the Seminar and Dean College of Horticulture Dr Rakesh Gupta informed that DISHA will focus on the sustainable enhancement of productivity and economics of agriculture. Through various technical sessions, it way lay emphasis on the socio-economic issues related to agriculture, livelihood of the peasantry, resource-use efficiency, abiotic and biotic stress factors, ethnic knowledge, climate change and global warming and sustainable management. He added that despite our planet being adorned with colossal resources to sustain life and livelihood, its indiscriminate exploitation has created an imbalance leading to loss of productivity and reduced gains from agriculture.

The thematic areas of the seminar are Intensification and Diversification in Agriculture for Higher Income, Integrated Production and Protection of Crops, Organic Agriculture, Forest and Natural Resource Management, Post-harvest Management, Processing and Marketing of Produce, Animal Husbandry, Fishery and Wildlife Management, Rural Sociology and Economy and Extension and Support Services. Through this event, DISHA plans to provide a platform to scientists, researchers, students, policy makers, farmers and traders engaged to agriculture and allied entrepreneurs.
