Ludhiana, May 23, 2015: The second day of the PTU Sponsored two-day National Seminar on “New Frontiers in e-Governance” began with expert deliberation by Session Chair Dr J. S Pasricha, Professor, Department of Commerce, Punjabi University, Patiala (Punjab).
Highlighting the need for e-governance, Dr Pasricha said that the governance all across the countries have deteriorated since years especially at the political level. He further informed that the impact had been felt the most in India thereby necessitating immediate attention and remedial actions.
Dr. Pasricha also gave numerous real life examples to demonstrate the urgent need of citizen centric e-governance initiatives. He pointed out public participation, transparency, responsiveness, efficiency and accountability to be essential characteristics of good governance. He revealed that India ranked at 180th position in implementation of the e-governance model while Republic of Korea topped the charts. He exhorted that we need to work very hard to frame and implement better e-governance mechanisms.
This was followed by the technical session where as many as 30 papers were presented on topics pertaining to e-governance initiatives and performance in India, evolution and challenges of e-governance, e-governance in Insurance sector, use of ICT for Direct tax administration, Corporate governance , digital India and others.
Dr Parampal Singh, Associate Professor, Dept. of Business Management, GNDEC, Ludhiana chaired the valedictory session. He appreciated the presentations and congratulated the organizers for choosing a very important theme for the seminar. Prof. Parvinder Singh summarized the 60 papers presented in the two day seminar through a valedictory report. Dr. P. S Khattra , Principal and Prof. Manjeet Singh Chhabra, Co-ordinator GGNIMT thanked the guests for sparing their valuable time and giving useful insights into the topic.
