Kapurthala, February 28, 2015: Dr Neelam Gulati, Director, Punjab State Council for Science & Technology, Chandigarh on the occasion of National Science Day at Science City here said in order to build a nation, one needs to inculcate scientific temper at the individual, village, block, district, and finally at state level.
“We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology, and we cannot afford that its people hardly know anything about science and technology”, said Dr Gulati, adding, “Even the Constitution of India, under its fundamental duties, in its article 51A(h)states as one of the duties of every citizen to develop the scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of inquiry and reform. The government of India and State government are taking up steps through their various schemes to popularise science and technology in the State.”
Further, Dr Gulati said during the stone-age, man discovered how to develop and use tools in order to cultivate food and protect himself. Today, we are living in a world which totally depends on science and technology. In doing so, science and technology should make the natural and social environment harmonious, without seriously endangering the future and in the process improve our daily lives.
Speaking on the Occasion Dr. Rajesh Grover, Director, PGSC said that the future of a country depends on development it has made in Science & Technology. He said that there is serious need to sustain our infrastructures that support innovation. He further emphasised on the need to set up Innovation Clubs in schools where students should be encouraged to think out of box and undertake innovative ideas/projects to solve problems in their real life or society based needs which will bring joy of learning and simultaneously play an important role in fostering culture of creativity and innovation in the country. In this context, Dr. Grover also mentioned that PGSC had set up Innovation Hub under GOI sponsored scheme to encourage talented students to pursue their innovative ideas in various scientific research areas. The students offering potential ideas are furnished with all the necessary facilities to optimise and develop those innovative ideas and also provided free boarding/lodging facilities as well as stipend.
Result of the Competition: Panting: Inderpreet Singh from SPPS Convent School Begowal Stood first prize, second prize has been achieved by Ankita Duggal from Sans Kiriti KMV School Jalandhar and third prize goes to Akshdeep from Evergreen Day Boarding School Kapurthala.
Caption writing competition: First prize has been achieved by Baljinder Kaur from Guru Harkishan Public School Nadala, second prize goes to Harsimran Kaur from Krish Joyti Convent School Sultanpur and HarmanJot Singh From Gurharkishan Public School RCF Kapurthala.
