National Innovation Talent Contest for Polytechnics

Chandigarh, 12 May, 2016: National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training & Research (NITTTR), Kolkata, is engaged in improving the polytechnic education system of the country by imparting training to polytechnic teaching fraternity. To ensure motivation in skill training among the students, teachers, technical staff members and to foster innovation literacy for improved downstream innovation and productivity in industry, NITTTR, Kolkata organizing `National Innovation Talent Contest for Polytechnics’ in three major conventional disciplines-- Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
The key objective is to identify the levels of skill and innovation potentials of the students, teachers, and technical staff members of polytechnics and to develop cost effective technological support to the society in the domain of conventional Engineering and Technology. It also aims to foster innovation literacy for improved downstream and productivity in industry.
Prof. Phalguni Gupta, Director, NITTTR said, “The Contest is aimed at bringing about revolutionary progress for polytechnic education. From teachers to students, everyone will derive benefit from the contest. It will give ample boost towards confidence building by increasing the innovation potential. Moreover Industry will get access to talent, facilities along with support to launch new products and services in the market. We have a lot of expectations from the Contest keeping in mind the hard work of everyone involved.”
A skill is a type of work or activity which requires special training and knowledge. The aim of the polytechnic education in our country is to create a pool of skill based manpower to support shop floor and field operations as a middle level link between technicians and engineers. The pass-outs of diploma level Institutions in Engineering & Technology play an important role in managing shop-floor operations. It is further an established fact that small and medium scale industries prefer to employ diploma holders because of their special skills in reading and interpreting drawings, estimating, costing & billing, supervision, measurement, testing, repair, maintenance, do-it-yourself activities etc.
General Guidelines
? All teams will have to exhibit the developed models physically at NITTTR, Kolkata which is through a live demonstration, presentation and question-answer session on a date announced by NITTTR, Kolkata.
? Each team must submit a report consisting of specification, cost and manufacturing details of the model.
? The organizer’s decision shall be final and binding.
? The organizer reserves the right to modify the rules of the Contest at any point of time.
The Contest would consequently enhance the confidence of the students by increasing the innovation potential of the students, teachers and technical staff members of the respective polytechnic and development of cost effective innovative technology for the benefit of the society. Industry shall also gain access to young and bright polytechnic talent besides launching of new products and services in the market.
National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training & Research (NITTTR), Kolkata, (formerly known as Technical Teachers’ Training Institute, Eastern Region, Calcutta) was established in 1965 by the then Ministry of Education, Govt. of India. Its primary focus is to provide in-service training to the teachers and staff of polytechnics. In 2003, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, accorded national status to this Institute in recognition to its expert services for overall improvement of the quality of Technical Education System. NITTTR, Kolkata’s other focal activities include staff development programmes, development of learning resource materials, curriculum development, research, educational management, and rendering extension services to various academic bodies. At present NITTTR, Kolkata is also offering four AICTE approved regular post graduate programmes. This Institute has two Extension Centers, one at Guwahati and another at Bhubaneswar to cater the training needs of the respective regions.
