Municipal Council needs financial assistance

Ferozepur, November 8, 2012: The agitation of employees of Municipal Council , Ferozepur City enters the second day to show resentment for non release of salary and shouted slogans against the anti-employees of the Punjab Government. 

The employees of municipal council have not been paid their salaries for the last three months.

Addressing the protestors, Randhir Gupta, president, Municipal Council Clerical Staff Employees Union, Ramesh Kumar of Fire Brigade Employees Association, Gurmit Singh of Pump Operators Union and Karam Singh of Class Four Employees Union said, “Despite assurance by Kamal Sharma, political advisor,  to get the salary released, on the visit of Som Nath, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, the same has not been released for the last three months and the employees are feeling great difficulty to pay school-college fees of their children and electricity bills besides managing the other day today household affairs”.

The presidents of the Union said, “With the abolition of number of taxes including octroi tax, the income of the council has reduced while the expenditure is on the higher side”. 

They further said that in such circumstances, the government should give a special package of financial assistance to the municipal councils to run the day today affairs. 

Giving warning to the government, they said, in case the salary is not released immediately, they will continue their agitation till their demands are not met”.

Ashwani Grover, president Municipal Council, Ferozepur, when contact said, “The monthly expenditure of the Municipal Council is about Rs.75 whereas the income has gone down to Rs.25-30 lakhs”.  He further said, a reference to the government has been made to give special assistance to the municipal council. It is hoped, the transfer of certain funds would ease the financial position of the council”.
