Municipal Corporation Ludhiana targets to plant 50,000 saplings by September-end

Ludhiana, July 19, 2016: The plantation drive initiated by the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana (MCL) is going on at fast pace in the central verges of eight main roads. Alongwith this, plantation in rest of the internal roads has also been started by the officials. The officials claimed that they have already planted as many as 6500 plants on city roads and plantation will continue till the end of September month and they would be able to meet their target of planting around 50,000 saplings which were promised by Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria.

The plantation is going on in the central verges of eight main roads of the city since July 6. It was kicked off from Aarti Chowk and Mayor Gohalwaria had inaugurated the plantation drive. The officials claimed that, plantation in the central verge from Cheema Chowk to Samrala Chowk and from Samrala Chowk to Vardhman Chowk, is already complete. However the plantation in the central verges of Ferozepur Road is likely to get completed in next few days. Also plantation is going on Chandigarh Road central verge, Hambran Road central verges and Pakhowal Road central verges.

Meanwhile the officials have also asked the Park Management Committees to complete their preparations for the plantation so that they can start planting saplings in the public parks as well. As soon as the work in central verges would reach near completion the PMCs would also start plantation in the public parks. The MCL has allocated 545 public parks to the park management committees and saplings would be planted in these parks.

The executive engineer Surinder Kumar told that they have hired private contractor for main eight roads and he is arranging for the plants along with the labour for the plantation. He further informed that for rest of the city roads they are purchasing the saplings from the government departments like Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) and Forest department.
MCL Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori told that they have planned plantation drive in such a way that it should help in beautification of these major roads as well. He told that officials have also been told to use similar plants on central verge of one road so that it should look beautiful.
