Municipal Corporation Ludhiana reminds defaulters to pay property tax through bulk sms

Ludhiana, September 10, 2016: If you are one of the defaulters who have not paid the property tax for this financial year you can also receive SMS from MCL that come and file tax before September 30 and avail 10 percent rebate on the tax amount. The department has decided to send bulk sms to the defaulters for making them clear the property tax dues as soon as possible.

The officials would send 65000 sms to the defaulters whose contact numbers are saved with department. Out of these 35000 sms have been sent already while rest will be sent in one or two days. The entire effort is being done to recover the property tax dues not only for this financial year but also for previous years.

According to the officials there are over 55,000 defaulters who did not file their property tax return for previous financial years 2014-15 and 2015-16 while recovery of current financial year is going on. For these defaulters also the MC officials have issued more than 25,000 notices for clearing their pending dues otherwise MC can even seal and auction their properties. Similarly a public notice has been published in the newspapers that defaulters should pay their tax amount.

MCL Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said, "We are sending sms and notices to defaulters so that they should come forward and pay their taxes. The taxes which they would pay would be ultimately utilized for development of their city and civic amenities."
