Municipal Corporation Ludhiana to impart training to sewer men to use safety kits during sewerage cleaning

Ludhiana, September 19, 2016: Followed by the tragic death of two sewer men while cleaning the sewerage the Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria claimed that they would impart necessary training to the sewer men to use the safety kits during cleaning of manholes.

This decision was taken up after listening to the demand of the members of Municipal Employees Sangharsh Committee who conducted a meeting with Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria on Monday. The members of union handed over cheque Rs 1 lakh through Mayor Gohalwaria to the family members of the deceased Mehar Chand who died in the incident.

The Mayor Gohalwaria asked the additional commissioner Surabhi Malik to ensure release of funds to the family members as soon as possible. The union members had raised the demand that sewermen did not have the technical knowledge to use those kits due to which they were not using them and such tragic incidents were happening. Therefore to avoid these incidents training should be imparted to them.

Mayor Gohalwaria said that it was really very tragic incident that two sewer men died while cleaning the sewerage therefore now they would be organizing training programs for them. He assured that funds of sewer man Mehar Chand will be released shortly.
