Ludhiana, September 6, 2016: Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana has floated the tenders for the installation of the smart poles in various parts of the city on Tuesday. This would the pilot project in entire Punjab. First of all 1,000 smart poles are to be installed at selected locations and if became successful it would be implemented in other areas as well. Earlier, a private company had showed interest in doing this project for MCL but department wants agencies to contest for getting the tenders so that there should be fair dealing.
Through this project 1,000 traditional street lights would be replaced with 1,000 ‘Smart Poles’.
Once these poles would be installed then apart from the LED street lights telecom companies can fix their devices for mobile networks and separate mobile towers will not be required in the nearby areas.
Similarly wi-fi routers can also be fixed on the same tower and nearby residents will be able to enjoy the wi-fi hotspot zones.
In the first phase smart poles will be installed in localities including Feroze Gandhi Market, Pakhowal Road from Bhai Bala Chowk till MC limits, Dugri Road, Model Town, Model Town Extension (Block A/B/C/D), Urban Estate Dugri (phase 1 and 2), Gill Road, Model Gram and all blocks of BRS Nagar and Kitchlu Nagar.
Municipal Commissioner, Ludhiana Ghanshyam Thori said, “We have floated tenders with Swiss challenge method which is used when any public authority gets a proposal for some project from a single company and to avoid any controversy that idea is used for floating tenders where other such companies can also participate.” He further told that it would be a pilot project in Punjab and can be replicated if brought good results.
