Ludhiana, September 21, 2016: In order to review the pending cases under Right to Information Act, the Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Ghanshyam Thori conducted a meeting with the concerned officials on Wednesday. He has directed the officials to clear all the pending cases before October 7 and come with all the records for yet another review meeting.

In this meeting the officials informed that from January 1 till September 15 this year MCL received total 1513 applications for providing information under RTI act. Out of these 1513 cases 510 people went for first appeal while rest applicants were satisfied at the first stage only. However out of 510 appeals that had come to the first appellant authority 145 cases are in process of providing information while 145 people made appeal with the Punjab State Information Commission.

The officials also told that out of 145 cases that had gone for second appeal 70 cases were disposed off while 75 cases are still going on. As per the officials 66 percent people got satisfied with the information at the first stage and only 10 percent people made an appeal to the Punjab State Information Commission.

The MCL Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori has strictly directed the officials not to keep any pendency and clear all the RTI cases within given time period. He has asked them to pursue cases properly at the state information commission level so that it should get disposed off.

Thori said, “Though there is not much pendency in the RTI cases but even then officials have been told to take up cases properly so that pendency should be cleared well in time. I will review the cases once again on October 7 by then the officials will clear all pendency.”
