The 4 Day meet was inaugurated formally today morning by Col V. Ramulu, Secretary of AP Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutes Society. He lighted the ceremonial Torch, which the captains carried running around the ground thus marking the opening the Muddy Soles event.
Speaking on the occasion, Col Ramulu said being physically fit is important to fulfill endeavors in life. The students should play with the spirit of competing with oneself rather than competing with others. One should excel in both studies and sports, as education is about achieving in every sphere. He also congratulated Open Minds for the event which is being held for the first time
Muddy Soles is conceptualized in the background where physically activity is becoming rare for the kids. As there are no sufficient playgrounds, children are resolving to virtual games. The objective of Muddy Sports is to bring children from virtual games to real games. With lack of playgrounds, kids prefer to play virtual games rather than real games. This has been adding to childhood obesity. Participation in frequent sporting events brings that culture in them.
Muddy Soles is also organized to encourage sportsmanship and leadership skills among students through competition informed Swapnali Deore, The Principal of the School, Open Minds. Addressing the gathering she stated that every one will have dreams and to make them come true, we need determination, dedication and self discipline, which is taught by sports. The beauty of sports is that it makes us laugh some times and cry too. What makes it more significant is the true sportsmanship, which is to play and play fair, play for fun. Winning should not be the sole purpose of playing, but to participate with commitment is what matters.
The opening day today competitions were held in Carroms, Table Tennis, Kho-Kho and Basket Ball. The initial rounds of Chess, Football and Tenns, Chess were also conducted today. Finals will be held tomorrow. All the track events will be held tomorrow.
There would be another exciting friendly Cricket Match between the Parents and Staff of Open Minds on 6th Feb, that would culminate with the prize distribution of the internal sports competitions.
Around 300 students are participating in the event. About 40 schools such as Indus International, Glendale, Chirec, Meridian, Manthan, Kennedy Global etc are expected to take part in four day event.
