Kollam (Kerala), April 11, 2016: MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar expressed his shock and dismay over the tragic incident at the Puttingal Devi temple where over 102 people were killed and scores injured when an explosion took place during a festival at Paravoor at around 3 am on Sunday. The MP visited the temple and the hospital in Kollam and offered his condolences to the families who of those injured and who lost their lives.

Expressing his solidarity with the family of the victims, Rajeev said “I am deeply saddened about the tragic loss of life to fire crackers at Kollam’s Puttingal Devi temple. It is a very unfortunate and unprecedented incident resulting from ignoring fire safety rules. The District administration cannot be a mute spectator to obvious flouting of the fire safety norms. The State Government must setup a high level enquiry into this tragic incident and get a detailed investigations done to identify those responsible of death and injuries to such large and unprecedented manner. The probe must establish accountability for this criminal negligence”.
