Ferozepur, November 3, 2012:  A seminar to celebrate  “Vigilance Awareness Week” as per instructions of Central Vigilance Commission, at Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur City which was attended by SSP, Varinderpal Singh, SSP Vigilance Bureau Parmveer Singh Parmar, SDM Gurjit Singh, DTO Gurcharan Singh Sandhu and number of officers/officials from various departments.

In his address, Varinderpal Singh made aware about the programmes initiated by the Vigilance Bureau for taking action against the corrupt officers and officials and appealed to the people to be aware against corruption because with the help of society, this social menace can be eradicated from the root level.

Parmar, SSP Vigilance Bureau said, Punjab Government has started the anti-corruption movement and toll free number 1800-1800-1000 has started functioning and any person register his complaint against any corrupt officer or official and also view the follow-up status on the web site of the department besides getting knowledge about the Anti-corruption Act.

Dr. Madhu Prashar, principal out of her experience said, three pillars of “Family, Teacher and Religion” can help to fight with the corruption menace.

On this occasion, Dr. Satinder Singh, national awardee, Prof. Ambuj Sharma, Himani Kamra student of Dev Samaj College for Women and Harish Kumar, an active social worker, expressed their views on corruption and role of society and officials to adopt anti-corruption measures.

They said, the introduction of RTI and RTS Acts are a step towards the check on corruption. Corruption is found to be one of the most damaging consequences of poor governance system. It is characterised by lack of both transparency and accountability. Corruption lowers investment and hinders economic growth also human development. Corruption is anti-poor, antidevelopment, anti-growth, anti-investment and inequitable. People have to come forward to join hands with the police for eradication of cancer like disease by reporting the corrupt officials to take stern action.
