Chandigarh, November 11, 2016: The on-going intra moot court competition at University Institute of Legal Studies judged the exceptional lawyering and argumentative skills of law on the second day where the students vied for the winners’ trophy and the perks attached to it.
Mooting is a pre-requisite for legal aspirants and it is a part of the curriculum as advised by the Bar Council of India. The budding lawyers competed with each other to display their best oration, presence of mind and spontaneity. They were judged on the parameters of Knowledge of law and its application, time management and ability to answer questions. While giving them patient hearing, various judges who are the alumni of UILS, turned nostalgic and stressed on the importance of moot and training of lawyers. They said that these competitions give real life training to the budding lawyers. The contestant teams displayed their exceptional level of patience to maintain the decorum of stimulated court room sessions and also showed their listening skills. The judges also encouraged them to maintain peace of mind and humour while pleading the case.
Teams comprising a maximum of 3 members competed for the preliminary rounds. The exchange of memorials took place after the declaration of the results. Battling it out in the preliminary rounds, eight teams out of 70 made their way through the next
qualifying rounds. The teams geared up for the quarter final rounds and presented their sheer argumentative skills.
The semi-final and final rounds will be held on the concluding day of the competition adjudicated by senior advocates like Advocate Naresh Markanda, Advocate Munisha Gandhi, etc. The final rounds will be witnessed by noteworthy judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court followed by a Valedictory ceremony.
