Ludhiana, October 18, 2016: Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has said that there was a need to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship among people belonging to SC/ST sections of the society.
While launching the national SC/ST hub and the zero defect, zero effect on environment (ZED) scheme for the MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises) sector at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana on Tuesday, he added that their motive of launching the hub was to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship among people belonging to SC/ST sections.
Modi asked the manufacturing sector of the country to strictly follow global quality standards if they really wanted to explore the global markets for their products. He asserted that the manufacturing sector should never compromise with the quality standards otherwise it would not be possible for them to sustain in the global market. He further asked the manufacturing sector to ensure that their products were eco-friendly because no nation tolerated to accept those products which were not eco-friendly. He asked the manufacturing sector of the country to ensure zero effect in their products to ensure whole hearted acceptance of their products at the global level. He asserted that the manufacturing sector should think at a bigger level to capture the global markets.
Further, the prime minister asked the manufacturing sector to work hard for ensuring better and attractive packaging of the products. He said it had been observed that many a time better products were rejected only because of poor quality packaging. He said the Government of India (GoI) was laying much stress on startup and the efforts were showing overwhelming response and lakhs of startup entrepreneurs had been given crores of loans without guarantee by the banks. He said startup gave encouragement to both innovation and talent.
He said the agricultural production was not up to the mark in the last two years due to drought like conditions. Still, the nation had achieved better economic growth despite global slowdown and this had been made possible only because of both the manufacturing and the service sectors.
He said today he had distributed charkhas among 500 rural women of Punjab. He said the presence of charkhas at home could become a source of income and this was why the government was laying stress on further promotion of Khadi across the country. He said the growth of Khadi production and its use would ultimately boost Indian economy. He said “Khadi for Nation” was the slogan before Independence but now the slogan was “Khadi for Fashion”. He motivated countrymen to buy Khadi fabrics besides other fabrics. It would give employment to poor people too.
Speaking about the swacchta campaign across the country, he said it might also provide opportunities for businesses. He said the only thing required was to bring innovation, adding that the manufacturing sector should come up with new ideas and machines to make cities clean and make products out of waste materials. Citing an example he said perfumes could be manufactured out of the flowers that were offered in the temples.
Modi acceded to the request of the Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal to visit Bathinda in the near future for laying foundation stone of Rs.1000 crore AIIMS there. He said he would definitely fulfill the wish the chief minister.
On the occasion, Modi honoured 225 outstanding MSMEs from across the country.
