Ferozepur, August 20, 2019: Massive rescue operation was carried out to save the lives of the people who were stranded due to swollen Sutlej at Village Nihalewala and other nearby villages.
As per information available, Congress MLA Parminder Singh Pinki along with Deputy Commissioner Chander Gaind, SSP Vivek Sheel Soni, reached the village and started the rescue operation with the help of companies of NDRF and army. The evacuated villagers were sent to the nearest relief camps.
Pinki said that the state government is making all the efforts to save the precious lives of the people. “Thousands of acres paddy crop has been destroyed due to the floods. I will make sure that each farmer gets adequate compensation for the loss of crops”, said Pinki.
DC Gaind said that the entire government machinery was streamlined to help the people in this hour of need. “We will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the worries of the people affected by floods gets minimized” he said.
Anil Kumar Yadav, Inspector 7th NDRF Bathinda said that his team has rescued more than 90 people today. “Several people are still inside their houses as they were not willing to come. We will also ensure that those villagers who have preferred to stay inside their houses remain safe”, said Anil Yadav. c

VILLAGERS BEAR THE BRUNT DUE TO STANDING WATER
Though, the water level has gone down today as only 1,16,120 cusec water was received upstream Harike Headworks and 97388 cusec was released downstream comparing to 1.59 lakh cusec water upstream and 148230 cusec water downstream yesterday, however hundreds of villagers are still facing huge problems due to standing water.
As per information available, more than 5000 acre land is inundated at villages Dheera Ghara, Nihala Lavera, Muthianwali, Bagewali, Bandal, Mannu Machi, Gatta Daler, Jamali Wala. Bohar Singh and Sawinder Singh both residents of Village Muthianwali said that no leader has come to their villages. “We have not received any kind of relief material from the administration. There is no arrangement of fodder for our animals. Only NDRF and army is here to evacuate us”, they said.
Harinder Singh, Kuldip Singh, Shingara Singh, Turna Singh of Village Nihala Lavera said that they have no benefit of state government releasing 100 crores for the flood victims. “Asi ki lena putt, saadi fasla tan dub gain na” (We have no benefits of these funds, our crop is already lost), said Harinder Singh.
