Tanshuman Gurung wins Miss Himalaya Pageant Crown.
Dharamshala, October 6, 2015: A 23-year-old student of MA English from IGNOU ,Tanshuman Gurung, from Uttarakhand, was crowned Miss Himalaya 2015 in a modest show on Sunday at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts, Mecleodganj (TIPA), in Dharamshala. “I am feeling so blessed and proud to be a Himalayan”, said Tanshuman just after she was crowned.
Miss Gurung further said, “I will fulfill the responsibilities that come with the crown. The title is a backbone for me, it’s going to go with me everywhere.” The crowd was pleased to see the 2014 Miss Himalaya, Jyoti Dogra, to present the crown to Tanshuman Gurung as the crowd cheered the new Miss Himalaya.
Tenzin Sangnyi, a Tibetan living in Manali, was declared the first runner-up, and Chum Darang, from Arunachal Pradesh, the second runner-up.
The winner was awarded Rs.100,000, the first runner-up Rs.50,000, and the second runner-up Rs.25,000.
The Miss Himalaya Pageant was started in October 2012 by Lobsang Wangyal Productions Dharamshala, to provide a platform for young women from the entire Himalayan region to promote its culture, preserve its environment, and foster friendship among the Himalayan people.
The Pageant brings on one stage women from the entire Himalayan region, from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh, spreads throughout 10 states: Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, as well as the hill regions of two states: Assam and West Bengal. Young women from Bhutan and Nepal were also invited to participate in the Pageant.
Lobsang Wangyal, the director of the show said, “The idea of Miss Himalaya was conceived several years ago. Work for the event has been going on since early 2010. The event was publicly announced in June 2011.”
Lobsang Wangyal has been producing events and websites since 2000. His productions focus on media, web, art, sport, and entertainment. His biggest production was the Tibetan Olympics in 2008. However, the most popular is the annual Miss Tibet pageant. He has been successfully running the Miss Tibet pageant for the last ten years. The pageant has been receiving international coverage every year. Some of the Miss Tibets have participated in different international pageants in various countries.
