Chandigarh, April 30, 2017: DST Inspire Internship Camp at Panjab University witnessed one the largest Inspire Camp with total number of 790+ meritorious students (494+ girls & 396+ boys) specifically from rural areas of Haryana & Punjab along with tricity who participated in the 5th DST INSPIRE CAMP. Around 650 escort teachers are also participating along with meritorious students.
Today, valedictory function was organized for student’s feedback, mementos, prize and certificate distribution to all Panjab University laboratory mentors, students, escort teachers, volunteer and staff of Panjab University. Inspire students gave
very true feedback at valedictory function of DST Inspire camp. They are interested in long question answer sessions with mentors of the camp and suggested to increase the interaction time. Students were satisfied with scientific content of the camp and thoroughly enjoyed hands-on experiments at various PU science departments.
Students were quite enthusiastic to know about innovations in basic science and admitted that the camp opened new vista of understanding of science and guide them to choose science as career. On huge demand of the students, Dr Anurag Kuhad,
Program Coordinator of DST Inspire, conducted a special session about Panjab University Common Entrance Test (CET) and admission procedure. Escort teachers also interacted with science faculty of Panjab University and were satisfied with their
visit to PU. In nutshell, 5th DST Inspire Internship camp is very fruitful for students.
Professor T. Ramasami, Inspire Visionary & Chief Guest of the valedictory function delivered valedictory lecture entitled “JC Bose: An Inspirational Model in Indian Science” and addressed the gathering about how he initiated the DST INSPIRE.
Professor Ramasami said that in the empire of knowledge, ancient India had carved for herself special places. There have been legendary and celebrated contributions from India in the distant past. In the post industrial revolution era, India had
lagged behind in the world of technology led economic growth. In the later part of 19th and early part of 20th centuries, some inspiring leaders in the federation of science emerged in the country. Leaders of such calibre who did not anguish for lack
of support of the Government of the day emerged. One such legendary leader in modern science in India has been Acharya Jagdis Bose. He laid a foundation for the establishment of special place for India in the empire of knowledge. He echoed the
special attribute of the Indian minds to emerge as leader and not followers in the world of science. There are valuable lessons from the scientific work of Sir JC Bose. They concern a) art and beauty of discovering processes, b) discovering principles, which would enable lasting solutions to some societal problems, c) pushing the frontier forward into new territories rather than deepening knowledge created elsewhere in the world, d) advancement of Science, knowledge that owes its birth to India and places the country in Federation of science. There are several inspiring lessons from the work of Sir JC Bose as a role model for generations of Indian scientists to come. Belonging to a generation inspired from the work of Sir JC Bose, an attempt would be made to share some anecdotal experience with pursuit of science and joy of life with inspired research.
At last, Professor Ramasami congratulated Panjab University team lead by Vice Chancellor Professor Arun Kumar Grover for their untiring efforts to make this camp a big success. Professor Renu Chadha, Chairperson UIPS and chair Advisory Committee,
congratulate the students on successful completion of the Inspire camp. Professor Indu Pal Kuar, Dean Faulty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, briefed about five day DST Inspire camp activities. Dr Anurag Kuhad, Program Coordinator, DST Inspire Internship Program, Panjab University proposed vote of thanks. Dr Kuhad was quite satisfied and said that 5th DST Inspire Internship Camp achieve the mandate of DST Inspire program.
