Salaam Zindagi Foundation, an NGO, launches a Mega Project Umeed-A Hope in collaboration with Punjab Thalassaemia Welfare Society for their permanent treatment through Bone Marrow Transplant at Ludhiana on Saturday.

 

Ludhiana, August 17, 2013: Salaam Zindagi Foundation, an NGO working for the cause of Thalassaemic children by supporting them for blood and blood transfusion expenses and medicines, has launched a Mega Project Umeed-A Hope in collaboration with Punjab Thalassaemia Welfare Society for their permanent treatment through Bone Marrow Transplant.

The project was inaugurated by Bhagwan Singh, a social activist and Komal Aggarwal president Punjab Thalassamia Society.

Through UMEED – A Hope 26 children suffering from Thalassaemia will be treated through Bone Marrow Transplant. The total cost of the project will be in crores.

Today all patients underwent Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) test at Christen Medical College & Hospital. The total cost of the HLA tests is more than Rs. 6.5 lacs, which is borne by Youth Chemists Welfare Club and Punjab Thalassemia Society. Lovely Dawar president YCWC announced maximum support for the coming project on this occasion.

According to Dr. M Joseph John, MD, DM Head of Bone Marrow Transplant Unit the ideal age for Stem Cell Transplantation is 2 to 7 years. However, older children can also be transplanted with adequate preparation. CMC&H administration and the transplant team would work together with like minded people and NGOs like Salaam Zindagi Foundation to make this endeavor  fruitful to the people of Ludhiana.

Manjit Saini, President, Salaam Zindagi Foundation briefed about the project that in 1st phase 26 children age between 2 to 7 years will undergo HLA test. After the results in phase 2 the children who are approved for Bone Marrow Transplantation will undergo this procedure. Salaam Zindagi foundation in collaboration with Punjab Thalassaemia Welfare Society will bear the cost of these children. He also appealed to the masses to come all out and support the foundation for this project. All the contribution will be tax free as the NGO has valid 80-G TAX certification for income tax exemption.
