Jalandhar, December 15, 2012 : As many as 10,400 cases were settled during a mega Lok Adalats organised by District Legal Services Authority at three places one each at Jalandhar, Nakodar and Phillaur.

At Jalandhar, J. S. Klar, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority, inaugurated the Mega Lok Adalat.

Addressing litigants, Klar stressed the need for making use of the Legal Services, as the Article 39-A of the Constitution implies duty on the state to provide free and competent legal services to the weaker sections of the society with a view to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or any other disability.

He said as many as 14,091 cases had been placed before the benches for settling disputes in various cases to the tune of 10,400 cases.

Most of the cases were pertaining to the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, Civil, Criminal, matrimonial and revenue.

A total of Rs. 26.84 crore compensation was disbursed to the victims of the motor accident and to their legal representatives.

The cases were settled by way of amicable settlements between the contesting parties.

The Sessions Judge said 21 benches were set up in the in the district, including 17 at Jalandhar and two each at Nakodar and Phillaur. He said few cases pertaining to the bank loans were also settled.
