MCI Nodal Centre CMC trains medical faculty from new medical colleges for New MBBS Curriculum
Ludhiana, November 7, 2019: New competency based curriculum MBBS has been implemented in the country from 1 August, 2019. Medical Council of India (MCI) is training medical teachers for implementation of this curriculum. MCI Nodal Centre for Faculty Development, Christian Medical is training new allocated medical colleges by conducting three day program “Curriculum Implementation Support Program (CISP)” from November 7-9. While inaugurating the program, Dr. William Bhatti, Director, CMC, Ludhiana emphasized the role of faculty training of medical colleges for the challenges in implementing new curriculum. Principal, CMC, Dr. Jeyaraj D. Pandian appreciated the efforts of the participating faculty including senior faculty and principals of medical colleges in contributing to the rich discussions in the program. Dr. Dinesh Badyal, Convener of MCI Nodal center, informed that 30 faculty of newly opened medical colleges in 2019 and allocated to CMC, Ludhiana for training in new curriculum are participating. CMC has already trained faculty of 24 medical colleges before implementation of new curriculum. CMC Nodal Centre faculty regularly goes to these medical colleges as MCI observers to oversee the conduct of the training program of faculty. Dr. Badyal is the Member of MCI Expert group on implementation monitoring of new curriculum in the country and National Convener for conduct of CISP. Dr. Anjali Jain, co-convener and incharge CISP added that training of faculty of medical colleges is mandatory for implementation of new curriculum and faculty from established colleges have been already trained in first phase of training. The program has sessions which are innovative and relevant as per evolving needs of the profession and society. These sessions include early clinical exposure of students from first year, integrating clinical and basic sciences, development of skill & simulation lab for teaching-learning, option to choose electives by medical students for two months and updates in the examination system. One month foundation course has been implemented this year and has been successfully completed by all colleges. Various new methods in teaching-learning and assessment are being introduced. The new curriculum is available on MCI website along with supporting material for the updates. The new curriculum defines the MBBS graduate as Indian Medical Graduate (IMG) having 5 important roles that includes Clinician, Communicator, Life-long learner, Leader and Professional This is targeted for overall development of the graduates. The earlier batches will continue to have the conventional curriculum and for next 4 years these 2 curricula will run parallel. The well qualified faculty of Nodal center, CMC conducting this program were present on the inauguration and included Dr. Dinesh Badyal, Dr. Anjali Jain, Dr. Monika Sharma, Dr. Shavinder Singh, Dr. Bharti Uppal, Dr. Roma Issac, Dr. Sheena Singh, Dr. Gagandeep Kwatra, Dr. Pamela Alice K, Dr. Aroma Oberoi, Dr. Maria Thomas, Dr. Parvez, Dr. Deepshikha Kamra, Dr. Ajay Kumar and Dr. Suchitra deolalikar.
