City residents wish, drive should continue on permanent basis

Ludhiana, October 11, 2012: Ludhiana Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwarhia launched special cleanliness drive across the municipal area here today.

The drive will continue till October 31.

On the occasion colourful balloons were freed in the air.

Among others, senior deputy mayor Sunita Aggarwal was also present.

A large number of safai karamchari were also present on the occasion. They were carrying brooms in their hands, and seen greatly enthused to run the drive.

In his first official press conference held here a day before yesterday, Gohalwarhia had said that had to plan many projects in the future. But, he had announced to kick start cleanliness drive first as it did not require funds as other projects required.

City residents are happy with the kick start of the cleanliness drive. It was need of the hour, they believe. A large number of dumps are seen on every nook and corner of the city.  Even banks of Buddha Nullah are not free from this menace.

Besides, city residents also want that the drive should not end with the media coverage alone. Rather, they wish that this drive should continue on permanent basis, to give a clean look to the city where big projects like Metro are to be launched in the future.
