Anti-encroachment drive being carried out in Ghumar Mandi Area by the authorities of Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana, with the held of local administration on Wednesday.

Ludhiana, May 7, 2014: A team of Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana carried out massive anti-encroachment drive in Ghumar Mandi area here on Wednesday.
More than 60 illegal structures were removed.
Six JCB machines were put in service to carry the drive against encroachments.
The Ghumar Mandi area was seen virtually turned into a “police chhavni”, as around 450 police personnel were seen deployed there to maintain peace and law and order.
The drive was started at around 9 AM.
Among others, Joint Municipal Commissioner PS Ghuman, and assistant town planners (ATPs) Kamaljit Kaur Brar and Monica Anand were present.
The area residents and politicians including MLA surinder Dawar, municipal councillor Gurpreet Singh Gigi and former municipal councilor Raju Thapar tried to stop the demolition drive but the authorities failed to accede to their requests on legal grounds.
