TCAS brings Maruti-Suzuki National Autocross Championship 2016 in Chandigarh
Chandigarh, November 22, 2016: India’s one of the biggest motorsport event packed with the thrill of racing, Maruti Suzuki FMSCI Indian National Autocross Championship 2016 is all set to turn up in Chandigarh. The competition is witnessing the fierce battle between motorsport champions from southern India and North India for the coveted National title. This time for the first time ranking of the rallyists will be introduced in India.
After finishing two rounds in Kochi and Benguluru, the third qualifying round from November 26-28 will be held in an HUDA ground, Adjoining Shalimar Mall, Sector- 5 Panchkula. This three-day event is being facilitated by the largest motorsport club of the region, Team Chandigarh Adventure Sports (TCAS). Then Autocross circus will move on to Hyderabad, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Jaipur. The grand finale of the championship is held in Buddh International Circuit, Delhi-NCR. With an aim to push budding talent of the region, TCAS will also hold local championship rounds where winners will get trophies, certificates and cash prizes.
The best feature of the Chandigarh round will be ‘Local Performance Drives’ where motorsport beginners can come with any car to test their skills. They will be guided by experts who will share the know-how of car racing. Notably, there will be no entry fee for this category and Maruti Suzuki will give away goodie bags to all the participants to promote the motorsport culture. The safety partner for the event is Mayo Clinic which will provide two ambulances, paramedical staff and doctors.
While sharing more details, Nikhil Jaspal, Club Steward for the event said, “The best thing about the championship is that an autocross enthusiast doesn’t need to have a high end or a greatly modified rally car. They can bring a car of any manufacturer. All they require is to have skill and will to take on the track. The contestants will drive over specifically designed tracks Autocross tests the drivers’ skills and vehicle handling rather than just the speed”.
The founder of TCAS, Gulpreet Aulakh added that the open ground in sector 5 spread over 9 acres would see two parallel dirt tracks and there would be an iron over bridge to test the driving skills of the aspirants. He informed that the event would witness 250-300 races.
Talking about the role of TCAS in creating the right environment for motorsport events, Aulakh said, “The club is being run by professionals in motorsport industry from the past 15 years. We have organised various successful racing events which paved the way for rallyists of the region to exhibit their best of the driving skills. Now, we have brought national championship in this part of the region which will further strengthen the spirit of motorsport enthusiasts”.
The official driver of Maruti Suzuki, Jagmeet Gill stated, “Maruti Suzuki has always championed the motorsports culture by introducing tough and gruelling rallies like Maruti Suzuki Raid De Himalaya, Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare, Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm etc. in the most challenging terrains. We had first introduced Autocross in 2002 and then expanded to cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru which was greatly appreciated by rally enthusiasts. With an aim to expand the level of participation further, we have been adding cities”.
