MARUTI SUZUKI adopts five ITI's in Punjab

Chandigarh, March 21, 2013: The largest manufactures of automobiles in the country the auto giant Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) today took the major initiative of adopting five industrial training institutes of the state and establishing a long term relationship with Punjab.

The Technical Education Department, Punjab today signed a historic MoU with the auto giant Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) for the up gradation of technical education institutes in the state.

The MOU was signed by B. Purushartha, Director Technical Education on behalf of the Punjab Government, whereas Rajesh Uppal, Executive Director of Maruti Suzuki also signed the agreement from company side in the presence of Anil Joshi, Technical Education Minister, Punjab.

As per MoU, MSIL has adopted five ITIs of Amritsar, Bassi Pathana Pathankot, Malerkotla and Nabha. These ITIs are being adopted in private public participation (PPP) mode with the objective to train and create a pool of employable youth for the automobile and allied industries. Over 2,000 youngsters in the Punjab region are expected to directly benefit through this initiative.

Speaking on the occasion, Joshi directed the officials of the department to work for the skill development in the state. He further said that as per MoU both parties would work to improve the quality of training to upgrade the above mentioned industrial Training Institutes into centre of excellence, leading to the better employment opportunities to the students in the state. He instructed that besides this placement cells would also be set up in these ITIs to guide the students for better future and to develop suitable and sustainable mechanism to trace the careers. He said that MSIL would also identify training needs of faculty and depute them for training in associate industries and to ensure the placement of pass outs to the maximum possible extent within and outside its own organization and network. Executive Director of MSIL revealed that both parties would develop the plan for ITIs, defining the long term goals of the institutes besides chalking out the strategies for dealing the challenges faced by institutes.
