Chandigarh, January 14, 2013: The Punjab government has constituted a high power committee to identify freedom fighters and their legal heirs of Kamagata Maru movement.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson the Freedom Fighters Department said that Chief Secretary, Punjab has been made the Chairperson of this committee that would identify the descendents and legal heirs of the freedom fighters of the Kamagata Maru movement. This committee would also draft a policy proposal for the submission to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India for suitably expressing the nation’s gratitude to the freedom fighters of Kamagata Maru movement.
The spokesperson further said that this committee has been given three months time period to submit its recommendations. He said that other members of the committee included Principal Secretary, Freedom Fighter Department, Financial Commissioner, Revenue, Principal Secretary, Finance, Joint Secretary/Director, Freedom Fighters Department, Director, Archives, all Divisional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners of Amritsar and Tarn Taran, Whereas Secretary/Special/Additional Secretary, Freedom Fighters Department has been inducted as Convener and Member Secretary in this committee.
