Kapurthala, February 6, 2016: RCF Kapurthala has started the manufacturing of  coaches  to run at a speed of 200-km per hour . This initiative is as per the  proposal which was announced by Hon’ble Minister of Railways, Sh. Suresh Prabhu in 2015-16’s Rail Budget.
 
The new initiative involves the manufacturing a rake of 20 coaches which comprises 14 AC Chair Cars, 03 Executive Chair Cars and 03 Power cars. At present manufacturing of 04 coaches (02 Executive Chair Cars and 02 AC Chair Cars ) is on the way at RCF. These coaches of Alstom –LHB configuration , are upgraded with stainless steel brake disc, sintered pads and electro-pneumatically assisted brake system. Plug Type Entrance Door like Metro Train coaches have been introduced in these coaches which have provision to close automatically at 5 kmph besides providing better dust, sound and heat insulation.The third major modification in these coaches involves the improved and wider inter-car gangway (vestibule) area between the coaches, which will help to reduce dirt and water  ingress besides reducing noise level. 
 
Other features which are incorporated in these 200kmph coaches include improved passenger safety and comfort. The coaches will have aesthetically pleasant interiors with spacious and ergonomically  designed seats. Option for provision of personal infotainment system is also aimed at. Each coach will emphasize on safety, and will have fire retardant furnishing besides fire and smoke detection alarms. Balanced Draft Gear Couplers between the two coaches will help in smooth acceleration and retardation of the train.   
 
The lavatories of these coaches will have redesigned interior and equipped with Vacuum Evacuation assisted toilets. The plush interiors will have touchless fittings in taps, hand dryers and soap dispensers besides marble finish and anti graffiti coating on walls.   
 
The coaches carry  colour scheme based on  Cheetah known for its vitality and has been developed in association with National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. 
 
General Manager of RCF, Sh. R P Nibariya, is optimistic of the completion of the first consignment of coaches in the next month while the remaining will be completed  by next few months. / (Rajat Kumar, Jalandhar)
