Nawan Shahar/ Balachaur, August 28, 2019: Senior Congress leader and Sri Anandpur Sahib MP Manish Tewari today suggested that the time had come to review the provisions of the Punjab Land Preservation Act. He said, balancing the development and land preservation was the need of the hour.
Interacting with people here today, he said, while the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had decided to constitute the Kandi Area Development Board, the land availability was going to be a major problem.
The MP said, section 4 and 5 of the PLPA strictly restrict the use of land in different areas. He said, there are certain areas where one cannot construct a house for residential purpose even.
Tewari said, while he was not for the blanket misuse of land for industry and he strongly favoured preserving the natural environment, at the same time, the state needed industrialization for the overall development.
He said, while the land was available, but its use was restricted. He said, he will raise the matter with the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh so that a way out is found where land can be used for industry without compromising the natural ecosystem. “We can bring investors, we can bring investments, we can bring industry from outside, but we cannot bring the land from outside and we have to make it available here only”, he remarked, while stressing the need for rationalizing the PLPA.
Among others, Ch Darshan Lal Mangupur, MLA Balachaur, Pawan Dewan, Chairman, Punjab Large Industrial Development Board, Prem Chand Bheema, President DCC SBS Nagar were also present.
