Maize field day on public-private partnership in maize experimental area, PAU
Ludhiana, September 19, 2019: The Maize Section, Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized a one-day maize field day on Public-Private Partnership in maize experimental area, PAU, to strengthen ties with hybrid seed producing private companies. The research and development as well as marketing representatives of different private seed companies participated. A field demonstration on PAU bred hybrids along with their parents was held. Dr NS Bains, Director of Research, emphasized the need for high productivity hybrids to narrow down the economic benefits between maize and rice to strengthen diversification plans. Dr JS Chawla, Incharge, Maize Section, apprised the participants of the performance of PAU released as well as pre-release pipeline hybrids. Dr KS Thind, Additional Director of Research (Crop Improvement), informed about the guidelines set up for memorandum of understanding with PAU and encouraged participants to tie up with PAU for hybrid seed production. Dr Pannu, Additional Director of Research (Natural Resource and Plant Health Management), dwelt on drip irrigation in maize. Participants also exhibited interests in specialty corns and QPM hybrids.
