Ludhiana, August 19, 2012: In one of the most exciting games of the Mahindra NBA Challenge (MNC) so far, Amritsar scripted a thrilling comeback to beat Gymkhana Club by a point in a girls under-13 match at the Guru Nanak Stadium here today.
Gymkhana Club were looking good for the win at the halfway mark as they led 11-8, but the second-half told a different story as the young girls from Amritsar fought back brilliantly clinch the game 23-22. It said a lot about the team-effort from Amritsar that it was Lavpreet from Gymkhana Club who emerged the game’s top-scorer with 15 points.
Day two of the fourth week of MNC, Ludhiana had to cope with the constant threat of rain but there were a number of teams and players who lit up the gloomy day. Kiran of Government College for Women, Ludhiana was one of them, showing just why she was recently called up for a national camp as her 28 points alone exceeded the total put up by opponents Sangrur who were defeated 58-20 in this senior women’s tie.
There was better fortune for Sangrur in the girls under-16 division where they easily overcame the challenge of Patiala 46-14 with Amanpreet netting 19 points.
Gymkhana Club too made amends for their heartbreaking loss in the under-13 division by crushing DAV College, Amritsar 40-11 in a senior women’s encounter.
