Ludhiana, May 29, 2016: For promoting personal hygiene and creating awareness among girl students about Sanitary Napkins, the District Administration has installed a total of 28 Sanitary Napkin Vending Machines in several city schools and women jail. These machines have been installed by NGOs, Philanthropists and private banks under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity.
These vending machines have been installed in the Government Schools on Kamraan Road, Pakhowal, Raikot, Ramgarh, Nathowal, Katani Kalan, Goslan, Malaud, Narangwal, Samrala, Jawahar Nagar, Bharat Nagar, Government Senior Secondary School, Lakkar Bazar, Government Senior Secondary School, Division Number 3, Government Senior Secondary School, Sahnewal, Government Senior Secondary School, Salem Tabri, Government Senior Secondary School, Madhopuri, Government Senior Secondary School, Jawahar Nagar, Government Senior Secondary School, Gill Road and Government Senior Secondary School, Khanna, besides several others.
While speaking to media persons after inaugurating one such machine at Government Senior Secondary School in Punjab Agricultural University, Deputy Commissioner Mr Ravi Bhagat said that each vending machine will dispense three sanitary napkins, whose cost is Rs 10. He further said that the machines costing Rs 25,000 each are being installed by HLL company and are sponsored by various persons and companies under their CSR activity.
The DC said that along with Sanitary Napkin vending machines, Incinerators (for proper disposal of sanitary napkins) have also been installed in several schools. He also thanked Mr Arun Seth from Versatile Enterprises Pvt Ltd, who has donated several such machines to the district administration.
Mr Bhagat said that being Deputy Commissioner, he has already written to the state government that such machines should be installed in all government schools of the state. He said that the District Administration is already in touch with NGO's, banks and companies for the installation of these machines in other schools of the district. He also appreciated the efforts of ADC (Development) Miss Apneet Riyat, who was instrumental in roping in donors for this noble cause.
While speaking on the occasion, ADC (D) Miss Apneet Riyat said that it has been observed that sometimes the girls are hesitant to approach anyone for sanitary napkins. She said that such machines would help them in a big way. ADC Mr Rishi Pal Singh and SDM Dr Richa, were also present on the occasion.
