Ludhiana, June 6, 2016: The Ludhiana Psychiatry Forum today organised a panel discussion on `The evolving role of psychiatrist in pain management’.
The panelists included Dr.Randhir Deswal, Dr.Rajeev Gupta, Dr.Ranjive Mahajan and Dr.Rajeev Sharma. This was followed by general body meeting where new office bearers were installed.
Dr.R.L.Narang and Dr.A.K.Kala were nominated as patrons; Dr.Rupesh Chaudhry as President and Dr.Naveen Kumar as Secretary. Dr. Rajeev Gupta, Dr. R.S Deswal, Dr. Ajay Pal Singh and Dr. Ranjive Mahajan were nominated as advisors.
It was concluded that Pain is a “Central Nervous System (CNS) disorder and psychiatrists play a key role in management of chronic pain. Pain itself leads to a lot of disability and distress. Management of cognitive, behavioral & emotional aspects is an integral part of pain treatment. Certain classes of antidepressants have a role in neuropathic pain and are of great help in pain relief.
