Ludhiana, September 10, 2013: At the request of Ludhiana Integrated Textile Park Limited and Knitwear Club, Ludhiana Dr. K Samabasiva Rao, Minister of Textiles and Manish Tiwari, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting (IC) are visiting here on September 11, to interact on the demands put forth by them.

The demands being raised by the industry are read as under:

“Exhibitions Centre: For the last five years or so we had been holding buyer- sellers meets and to show case our products for buyers from every nook and corner of the country and international customers. For this purpose we have to arrange improvised infrastructure on rented premises/space. These structures are to be uprooted immediately after the event to hand over the site to the owners. The whole exercise involves exorbitant rent of the premises, installation and de-installation charges. Thus we have to incur a wasteful and avoidable expenditure of over Rs. 1 Crore every year. It is because of this that we request your honorable self to get an exhibition centre provided at Ludhiana on the lines of Pragati Maidan Delhi.

NIFT Centre:-There is acute shortage of qualified professional with designing skills, where as there is no dearth of youth available to be groomed for the profile, which can be achieved by opening a National Institute of Fashion Technology(NIFT) at Ludhiana. This will keep prevent exodus of local youth as well as persons coming from other states for their professional training after this facility is available at Ludhiana.

Training Centre:- The business has gone global and we need to be updated with latest technology and trends to be cost-effective, using latest machines and technology and maintain desired quality to reduce rejection and utilize our production capacity to its optimum, which cannot be achieved without a proper Training cum demonstration facility/centre.

Women’s/Worker’s Hostel:-The profile of work force has changed significantly over last couple of years and women work force has increased significantly and to encourage them to be the part of industry effectively, they need to be provided with Hostel and Crèches etc.  Further, work force at Ludhiana consists of significant number of migratory labour, who has to arrange shelter for them on rent at far off places from the industry concerned. Therefore, similar hostel facility for them would reduce their avoidable difficulties and get rid of  labour shortage being faced by the industry.

Technology Upgradation Funds Scheme: - The scheme may please be made applicable on old/reconditioned machinery which is as good as the new one in production capacity and quality and is available at much cheaper rates.

Anti Dumping Duty: - Indian goods face stiff competition from the hosiery goods and readymade garments imported from China and Bangladesh which are available at cheaper rates. The traders/entrepreneurs accumulate Chinese goods in bulk to sell them at comparatively low rates pushing the Indian counterparts to the wall. To check this menace, Anti Dumping Duty should be imposed on the finished hosiery goods and readymade garments and raw materials i.e. Fibre and Yarns imported from China, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.”
