Ludhiana, September 10, 2013: Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD),  an affiliate of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) has welcomed the decision of  Hero Motocorp Ltd for venturing to start solar and wind power plants in a big way.

Dr L S Chawla – president said that this is indeed need of the hour not only of our country but the world as a whole. As per the reports by the Intergovernmental panel on climate change (IPCC) headed by Dr Rajinder Pachauri the solar energy can meet the demands of electricity worldwide.

“Our organisation has several times raised this issue at a various national and international forums”, he said, adding there is ample scientific evidence to prove that nuclear energy is neither safe nor economical. It is fraught with serious long term consequences in case of an accident as have happened at Chernobyl and Fukushima.

Dr Arun Mitra General Secretary informed about a study conducted by the our organsiation on the health status of people living around Jadugoda uranium mines in Jharkhand shown serious adverse health effects. Non conventional renewable resources are the only answer to our energy needs. We hope that other industrial groups will also come forward to invest in this sector.
