Ludhiana, September 8, 2013: With the efforts of Federation of Associations of Small Industries of India (FASII) the GoI has decided to take action against the imports of cheap bicycle parts from China.
In this regard a meeting of FASII held meetings with Chief Advisor of Prime Minister T.K.A Nayar and Commerce Secretary S. R. Rao, the meeting was also held in this regard with Amrinder Sinha Development Commissioner Ministry of MSME in last one week.
FASII had pleaded the case of bicycle industry to the government and requested that the process of anti-dumping duty is very difficult and it was not possible for the bicycle parts manufacturers to comply with its requirements, because more than 89% of the effected bicycle parts manufacturers are in Micro category.
A complete data was provided by the FASII to all the officers of the concerned ministries in this regard, the import of Bicycle & bicycle parts from china was effecting the exports as well as the domestic market of these products, said the FASII national president Badish K. Jindal in a statement.
He added the imports were increased to Rs.650 crores to above Rs.3,000 crores in last four years and during the same period exports were dipped down from Rs.1,044 crores to Rs.656 crores.
FASII also provided the data of bicycle products in sensitive list, which were grown to about 400%., he said, adding even the Europe is having the anti dumping duty on Chinese bicycle parts of 48%.
Further, he said during the meeting Amrinder Sinha Development Commissioner of MSME disclosed that the Ministry was of the view of imposing the anti dumping duty but some bicycle manufacturers were against this view so the Ministry decided to withdraw this move. But the Ministry is also awaiting for the data to impose anti dumping duty.
He said now the government has appointed the National Small Industries Corporation to make a survey report on the Impact of Chinese Bicycle parts on Indian Bicycle Industry.
“The study will be conducted very soon and immediately after this report the government may opt for the anti-dumping duty of bicycle parts”, he said, adding Rajesh Jain Deputy General Manager have assured that the survey in this regard will be started at the earliest.
