Chandigarh, October 30, 2012: Paddy procurement is on full swing in Punjab.
District Ludhiana with 840367 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Patiala with 834223 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Moga with 748801 tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
Government agencies and private millers procured more than8722428 tonnes of Paddy till last evening.
The spokesman added that Out of total procurement of 8722428 tonnes of Paddy in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 8207426 tonnes of Paddy till date whereas private traders procured 515002 tonnes of Paddy. Till October 29, PUNGRAIN had procured 2352099 tonnes (28.7%) whereas MARKFED procured 1872260 tonnes (22.8%). PUNSUP procured 1892569 tonnes (23.1%), PSWC procured 850184 tonnes (10.4%) whereas PAFC was able to procure 861927 tonnes (10.5%) of Paddy. The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 378387 tonnes (4.6%).
The State Government has set up more than 1770 procurement centres and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of Paddy, the spokesman added.
