UCPMA urges Punjab Government not to charge penalty to the industry and to regularise submersible pumps without charges
Ludhiana, May 12, 2016: At a meeting of the office-bearers of the United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association (UCPMA) held under the leadership of Charanjit Singh Vishkarma (President) here on Wednesday, resentment was expressed over the charges being imposed on the industry for the submersible pumps installed in the factories.

Addressing the meeting, Vishkarma said, it is seen that the water is the prime ingredient in the industry and it is also the source of drinking for the labourers. As such, ample water is required in the industry but the government is unable to provide required water to the industry. “Industry has to install submersible pumps to get water but the government of Punjab has banned the installation of the pumps”, he added.

Further, the pumps already installed are being charged with the penalty which is totally unjustified, he said, adding on one hand the Punjab government is banning the pumps and on the other hand they are issuing the new connections to the farmers and not to the industry which gives employment and revenue to the government.”

He said industry is in a huge problem due to scarcity of water and ban of electric pumps as the government is unable to provide regular supply of water. He requested to the state government not to charge penalty to the industry and to regularise the submersible pumps without charges.

Rajeev Jain, general secretary, suggested that government should allow rain water harvesting to the industry so that water table can be maintained.

Inderjit Singh Navyug (Sr. Vice President), Rajinder Singh Pappu (Secretary), Achhru Ram (Finance Secretary) and Rajinder Singh Saralahi (Propaganda Secretary) were also present.
