Ludhiana, July 10, 2018: In order to promote the biodiversity among the people, the district administration would identify sprawling trees in the city so that anyone can recognize better and easily.

Chairing a meeting of the reconstituted district level biodiversity management committee and technical support group, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) (Development) Dr.Shena Aggarwal directed the forest department to start the exercise and take the services of botany students in this work.

She said that the later identification of tree, the special emphasis will be laid to protect and preserve them.

ADC Development also told the education department to reactivate the eco-clubs in the schools and hold a photography competition on best tree photo to instill the interest of biodiversity among the children.

Later, exhibitions will be also be organized by the administration.

Further to develop a biodiversity park in the Ludhiana, ADC said that land more than 25 hectares would be found out in the district.

She said that the aim of the committee is to ensure conservation and sustainable utilization of all biological resources within the jurisdiction with the technical and financial support of Punjab Biodiversity Board and National Biodiversity Authority.

Earlier, Dr. Gurharminder Singh, Senior Scientific Officer from Punjab Biodiversity Board welcomed the members and briefed about the main objective of the program. He further apprised about the various efforts being undertaken by the board in the direction of conservation of biodiversity of the state.
