LUDHIANA, APRIL 8, 2018: With an aim to provide a major marketing space to the farmers and self-help groups to sell their products, the district administration on Sunday has decided to hold ‘Kisan Market' on every Sunday in the city under Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) scheme.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pradeep Kumar Agrawal inaugurated first such market at the office of the agriculture department on Sunday.
Addressing the hundreds of the farmers in the market, Deputy Commissioner said that this initiative would help the farmers and self-help groups to reach potential customers of their products without the involvement of middlemen so that they can get the optimum price of their products in the market.
Agrawal told that farmers can sell several products including vegetables, pickles, honey, wheat flour, pulses and etc in this market. He said that the participants do not need to have to pay any kind of rent and organic products would be placed for the consumers.
DC appealed the farmers and help groups to motivate others to actively take part in the market where they can earn income by selling the products directly at good rates. He claimed that such Kisan markets would also be held in other towns of the district in the coming days.
On this occasion, Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Baldev Singh, ATMA’s Dr GS Khera, NABARD Officials and several others were present during the function.
