Ludhiana, March 25, 2013: Members of the Ludhiana District Chemists Association under the presidentship of Tikka Daleep Singh, submitted a memorandum to the Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana, Dr Subhash Batta on Monday.

While submitting their memorandum, they regretted that the drug authorities are not issuing drug licences to qualified persons holding a diploma or a degree in pharmacy. They also regretted that the local health authorities are putting a "red stamp" on drug licences and even asking for an affidavit, which is a “violation” of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

They also regretted that the local police are interfering in the routine functioning of chemists and are allegedly harassing them on one or the other pretext. They apprised the civil surgeon that apprehending harassment by the local police, they have decided not to sell habit-forming drugs. They categorically informed the civil surgeon that in case patients face any difficulty due to the shortage of such drugs then the entire responsibility would be that of the state government.
