LUDHIANA, MARCH 27, 2018: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pradeep Kumar Agrawal on Tuesday reviewed arrangements for dealing with floods in the district.

Chairing a high-level meeting of all departments here at the Bachat Bhawan, the DC instructed the officials to complete the cleanliness work of drains in the district before the start of monsoon season. He said that drainage department is primarily engaged with the repair and cleanliness of the drains.

DC told the officials to establish flood control rooms at district headquarters, sub-divisional levels till June 15. Besides such control rooms would also be set up at the office of drainage department and MC Office and all these rooms would function round the clock for which the sufficient employees would be deputed.

He told that all sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) and executive officers in urban areas and District Development and Panchayat Officer (DDPO) along with Block Development and Panchayat Officers (BDPOs)would identify the suitable locations for the control rooms.

The Deputy Commissioner asked the SDMs to make adequate arrangements to meet any sort of situation season and sufficient stock of boats, oars, life-saving jackets, motor engines, sandbags, wireless system, manpower, machinery, and tarpaulins should be ensured.

He said safe places should also be earmarked where residents of flood-affected areas would be shifted if required.

He told the SDMs to visit these places personally and should ensure the arrangements of drinking water facility, toilets etc there.

Further, Agrawal told police department to increase the vigil of cops in the areas falling near drains and canals to alert the administration for kind of emergency situation in view of the flood like situation

A complete list of swimmers and boaters should be prepared by the police department and SDMs well in advance and same must be submitted to his office.

A team of National Disaster Response Force should also be ready so that their services can be taken if any situation arises.

“Health department should be ready to control the situation if any waterborne disease spreads. The sufficient number of medicine, staff, and other facilities must be kept ready. Officials of Veterinary should also make such arrangements to save the livestock from any kind of disease, he added.

The public health department and officials of all Municipal Councils would ensure the availability of clean drinking water at the identified safe places.

Chief Agriculture Officer would arrange the fodder for the cattle and District Mandi Officer would be responsible for the arrangements of tarpaulins and similarly, transport department would make the arrangements of vehicles to shift the residents to tackle any kind the situation.

The electricity department officials instructed to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the hospitals and the officials would not leave their stations without prior permission of their senior officials,’’ he added.

In this meeting, Jagraon Additional Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Neeru Katyal Gupta, all SDMs, District Revenue Officer Savita and heads of various department were also present.
