Ludhiana and 4 other cities in Punjab to get new industrial training institutions

Chandigarh, November 16, 2014: The Punjab Government today approved construction of 5 ITIs and sanctioned Rs.36.40 crore for this purpose.

Stating this, a spokesperson of the Government said that it is proposed to open new Industrial Training Institutions(it is) in the areas which are unrepresented and where local demand and land is available. Keeping in view this aspect 5 new institutions are proposed to be opened at 5 places in the state namely Gurdaspur, Ludhiana, Roop Nagar, Ajitgarh (Mohali) and Fatehgarh Sahib.

The spokesperson also informed that the capacity of each ITI will be around 400-500. There will be 20 trades for skill development which will be taught at these institutions. According to the spokesperson, around 3-5 acres of land will be required for the buildings to be constructed and that land shall be provided by the Panchayat/MC. The recurring expenditure regarding the opening of these 5 new ITIs will be met by the State Government.

The spokesperson further said that in the existing ITIs new emerging technology trades e.g. computer hardware, auto electrician, fashion technology, consumer electronics and driver-cum-mechanic shall be started as per the requirement and growing demand of the industrial and service sector. Computer labs with internet connectivity and multimedia will be set up in all the 112 Government run Industrial Training Institutions. For this purpose, an amount of Rs. 52 crores was received from Government of India during 2012-13. No expenditure was incurred in 2012-13 and 2013-14 respectively.

The spokesperson also said that an outlay of Rs. 36.40 crores is provided for the Annual Plan 2014-15.

The Punjab Government is always strategizing about making efforts to equip it’s youth especially the students with latest skills in this age of cut throat competition and cutting edge technology.
